EMC Launches New Hybrid Cloud Computing Tools

EMC has launched the new all-Flash storage gear, tools to manage and automate data centers and a Virtustream storage cloud for hybrid environments. Storage giant EMC, will soon be merging with Dell to roll out a series of products aimed at hybrid data centers.

EMC is nearing a merger with Dell that should be completed in the months ahead. Michael Dell is keynoting day 1 for EMC World. EMC's plan is to launch a series of tools to move its core products to all-Flash as well as dangle cloud services to go along with it.

• On the primary storage front, EMC updated its Unity storage array portfolio. The new Unity array is designed for small and mid-sized businesses. The array is available in all-Flash, hybrid, converged and software defined. The new Unity systems are priced below $18,000.

• Virtustream, EMC's cloud brand that is being moved into VMware, launched storage services designed to operate at web scale with resiliency.

• The company outlined a cloud service dashboard that's free for support subscribers. EMC MyService360 is a cloud dashboard that allows visibility into EMC data center environments. The idea is to visualize EMC system status on the fly.

• Enterprise copy data management, or eCDM, expands EMC's portfolio and is designed to manage multiple copies of the same data.

• ViPR Controller 3.0 bridges traditional and cloud data center environments. ViPR Controller is EMC's software defined storage play and includes open source code from the CoprHD Project.
